UPDATE: This stall had closed down.
Recently Hot-Star Large Fried Chicken opened at Basement 1 of City Square Mall. It was the same name as the fried chicken stall at Shilin Night Market in Taipei. Bell and I loved that stall and we would visit it a few times on our trip to Taiwan. So I was really happy to see that a branch had opened in Singapore.
If you are taking the train, get off at Farrer Park station. Then look for Exit I which would lead you directly to basement 1 of City Square Mall. The stall is located opposite KFC.
The chicken tasted the same as what I ate in Taipei and it was still a massive cutlet ($4). Half of it was only meat while the other half was mostly bone. The coating was crispy and a little chewy while the meat was tender. Plum powder and chili powder were sprinkled onto the piping hot meat. You could ask the staff to skip the chili if you want but the chili isn’t spicy. If someone like me, who could not even handle the double McSpicy, could eat this with no ill effects, then you probably have no problems with it.
Unlike the Taiwan stall, the one in Singapore also sold other deep fried snacks as well as drinks. I had to wait for at least 5 mins because the staff only started frying the chicken after I placed my order.
