Keropi, Mao Mao, Redhead, Si Hamil, Spider and I met for dinner. It had been a long time since we gathered around the dining table. Unfortunately, Sayang was unable to join us as she had last minute work to rush out. Mao Mao suggested Rendezvous Restaurant which was supposedly a quite famous nasi padang restaurant. It was formerly at Rendezvous Hotel but had moved and was currently located at The Central.
The decor of the restaurant was very old school and brought back memories of the places I dined at as a kid. I loved the marble table tops for the dining tables. All the dishes were laid out cafeteria-style in metal trays at a counter near the entrance. So it was easy to order dishes since you could see what the food look like. Just point at the dish you want and the staff will ladle it into a plate and deliver it to the table. However, it also meant that the food was warm rather than piping hot.
We ended up ordering most of the dishes, minus one or two. Even though about half of it was curries, each curry was different. Although the curries looked about the same, some curries were thick while some were thin; some curries were mild while some were spicy. The curries were good and the meat was cooked until it was tender. In general, the food was a bit on the salty side and quite reasonable for a restaurant. But of course nasi padang from hawker centres would be much cheaper. Click on the photos below to view the close-ups of each dish:
Some of us ordered lime juice which came in a very small cup. It tasted like it was made with real limes rather than cordial but because the serving was so little, it felt rather expensive at $4.
