Four of us went to The Chop House for lunch. All of us took the set lunch which consisted of an appetizer and a main.
For the appetizer, I had the soft shell crab sandwich. The baby soft shell crab was deep fried and very crispy. Beneath the crab were some strips of bacon and lemon aioli. It was tasty but it was also, as someone I know used to say, a tickle to the stomach.
For my main, I had a sirloin steak. I asked for it to be medium rare and it was perfectly cooked. However, the portion was quite small (below 200 grams) and about one-third of it consisted of fats so there wasn’t a lot of meat.
To accompany the steak, I was given three bottles containing onion marmalade, mustard and beetroot. I tried eating the steak with all three and the general consensus was that the onion marmalade and mustard go well with the meat. The beetroot, on the other hand, was more of a personal preference kind of thing.
We also ordered sweet potato fries which was very nice. They were crispy in the outside and dense and soft on the inside.
While the food was tasty, lunch wasn’t filling. Two of my friends had salmon which consisted of a salmon steak and two asparagus shoots. As you can see, the portions were quite small but it could be that the portion for set lunch was smaller than normal. We felt that it wasn’t worth paying over $20 for the set lunch, especially as we were hungry again by 4 pm, even though we ordered extra sides.
