Coffee and brunch at 20F Specialty Coffeehouse

I went for lunch at 20F Specialty Coffeehouse located around the Jalan Besar area. It was fairly new as it opened late last year.

The cafe took over the premises of an old shophouse and the new owners kept some of the old furnishings so it had a retro look. Unfortunately, it also looked kind of dirty.

There are three seating areas. For simplicity’s sake, I’m going to call them front room, backroom and backyard. Right after the entrance is the front room. It is also where the cashier counter is located. After the cashier is the backroom which is a little dim. Behind the backroom is the backyard which is bigger and brighter but seems to be open air.

The staff was friendly, especially the pretty chill barista who had colorful tattoos covering his arms.

The latte ($5) was quite decent. It was slightly bitter but still acceptable. The coffee was not as creamy and felt slightly thinner than some of the well-known cafes like Chye Seng Huat Hardware.

The Duck & Waffle seemed to be 20F’s specialty but I did not feel adventurous enough to try the sweet and salty pairing. Besides, I was in the mood for scrambled eggs. So I had the Full Works ($20) instead.

The scrambled eggs were not bad, but not as good as my current favorite. The bacon was crispy and salty while the sausages (bratwurst and a spicy sausage) were tasty. I liked the tomatoes which popped with warm juice after I bite one. There was also some mashed avocado on a piece of bread. I didn’t like the bread as it tasted a bit sour like a sourdough.
